Protect Yourself From Fraud & Scams

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target consumers. Knowing the warning signs can help you protect your personal information, accounts, and money.

Common Scams to Watch For

Someone contacts you pretending to be SACFCU, a government agency, a business, or someone you know. They may ask you to verify personal information, provide a security code, or send money.

A scammer may claim your debit card has been compromised and tell you to place your card in your mailbox or another location for “pickup.” They may even tell you a courier is coming to collect it.

🚨 Remember: SACFCU will never ask you to leave your debit card, cash, or other banking items somewhere for pickup.

You receive a call or text asking you to provide a one-time passcode that was sent to your phone. Scammers may use this code to gain access to your account.

Someone tells you your money is at risk and instructs you to transfer it to another account to keep it “safe.” This is a common scam tactic.

You’re told you’ve won money or a prize but must pay a fee, purchase gift cards, or provide banking information to claim it.

Someone develops a relationship with you online and eventually asks for money, financial assistance, or access to your accounts.

A fake employer offers you a job and asks you to deposit a check, send money, purchase gift cards, or provide sensitive financial information.

Scammers may impersonate lenders, real estate professionals, title companies, or other parties involved in a home transaction and request money or sensitive information.

You receive a suspicious email (phishing) or text message (smishing) designed to trick you into clicking a link or providing personal or banking information.

Man with credit card and phone stops to wonder if he is dealing with fraud.

Stop. Think. Verify.

Before responding to an unexpected request for money or personal information:
